Atomic SX 11 Skis 2009

Atomic SX 11 Skis 2009

Almost identical to the SX 12, you get the same profile but not the Power Bridge under th binding. If you prefer a lighter or easier flexing ski that is more forgiving in varied terrain then try the 11's - if you enjoy a solid ride and tenacious contact with the hardest of snows then grab the 12's for their Power Bridge, it is a very good system, not too heavy and makes the ski much silkier.

An excellent and less expensive option than the 12's, ideal for lighter skiers or those looking for more all-mountain versatility.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 88/100

An excellent advanced to expert piste carver.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic SX 11 Skis 2009:

The top end Super Cross ski with excellent tracking for high-speed descents. Made possible thanks to magnesium Power Rods and the new Double Torsion bar in the shovel area. Having a softer flex, this ski glides with a fantastic feeling of balance. The AeroSpeed II honeycomb top sheet really catches the eye - even at speeds you reach thanks to reduced air turbulence.

Atomic SX 12 pb Skis 2009

Atomic SX 12 pb Skis 2009

Top-line skier-cross weapons. Fast, fun, direct, powerful and great in medium carves. Not as rapid edge-to-edge as the GS 12's but very quick and very, very enjoyable.
I skied the SX 12 in a variety of piste conditions, hard pack, slush, spring snow and they were fantastic - great for the advanced skier or expert looking for a ski that is a blast. They arc on anything, they reassure with their vast amount of grip and if you like to batter the blacks then this is a ski to do it on - just not too good at skidding, but then they aren't designed to be.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 95/100

An excellent piste missile for the aggressive advanced or expert skier.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic SX 12 pb Skis 2009:

The racing ski with the fresh look. With aggressive sidecut, flexible Power Bridge and 3D Ti Power Channels this ski is designed for one purpose only: to be the fastest. Agile and robust with perfect tracking to catapult you across the finish line. Total control even at high speeds: the recipe for success if you want to be first.

Atomic Race SL 11 pb Skis 2009

Atomic Race SL 11 pb Skis 2009

Tamer siblings to the Sl 12, a great ski. A touch more forgiving, not that the standard 12's aren't forgiving for the expert. Perhaps the advanced skier looking for their first pair of slalom skis would enjoy the 11's or, if they are very light, then the 10's.

Sharing a similar side-cut to the 12's the ski is razor sharp in short carves, you can also shape the turn really nicely and the flex is never over-powering on either the 11's or 12's. In fact i would probably just grab a pair of 12's unless I was female or finding the 12's that bit too aggressive - best try them before buying to be fair.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 95/100

A slightly "softer" slalom ski than the 12's but ideal for advanced to experts looking for a slightly less-aggressive slalom ski.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Race SL 11 pb Skis 2009:

The slalom dream for the dream slalom. Manoeuvrable, responsive, energetic. Equipped with the Carbon/Titanium Integral Bridge and Dual Torsion Bar this ski is ideal for short radius turns through the gates while it irons out mistakes thanks to the softer flex. The aeroSpeed II top sheet not only looks hot, it also burns up the decisive tenths and hundredths of a second by reducing air turbulence.

Atomic Race SL 12 pb Skis 2009

Atomic Race SL 12 pb Skis 2009

Fantastic fun. I really love the Sl 12's, they are lively without being unruly, powerful without being too domineering, in fact they are relatively easy to dominate for expert skiers and don't demand the same amount of respect as a race pair of FIS skis. So great fun! Perfect for ski instructors, advanced skiers looking for the next level or an expert skier who loves short turns. Sensitive, grippy, flexible, perfect flex, they turn on a dime and stunning performance. Superb.

* for racing purposes there is at least one specific FIS regulated version Atomic slalom ski available.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 95/100

Nothing adverse to say about a great pair of all-round slalom skis.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Race SL 12 pb Skis 2009:

The top slalom racing ski. Dynamic, manoeuvrable, responsive, full of power. With perfect edge grip and explosive power to the edge transmission for the most direct skiing line. The 3D Power Channels, Magnesium Power Rods, flexible Power Bridge and Double Torsion bars give it the highest torsion resistance and optimised flex characteristics. A ski that has been created for the top of the podium only.

Atomic Race GS 10 Skis 2009

Atomic Race GS 10 Skis 2009

Almost identical to the GS 11 but somewhat tamer flex - the profiles are mirrored throughout the size range. For the advanced skier rather than expert the GS 10 is much more forgiving, as they will also prove for lighter skiers. Check out the review for the GS 11 for further details.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Race GS 10 Skis 2009:

The Giant Slalom racing ski with the sleek look. Extremely smooth running with very precise control, thanks to the Carbon Integral Bridge and Dual Torsion Bars, among other features. And especially at high speeds and in long turns you can really see the advantage of the Aerospeed II top sheet. Its honeycomb structure reduces air turbulence and makes the ski noticeably faster.

Atomic Race GS 11 ib Skis 2009

Atomic Race GS 11 ib Skis 2009

Tamer than the 12's so a touch more forgiving but you are still very much in expert territory here. Fractionally easier to carve, well neither ski is designed for skidding!, but the 11's are very grippy, great on hard-pack and provide a fraction of versatility over the 12's - plus they are less tiring if you're spending a full day aboard.

Quick but gentler, finesse rather than rawer force, the GS 11 have their place and I guess lighter skiers may prefer them, I'd still plump for the 12's though.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 85/100

A really pleasing ride from an excellent GS-style racer. If this ski was in another manufacturers quiver then I may have given it higher marks but as it is I would plump for the 12's unless you are particularly light and agile on your feet.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Race GS 11 ib Skis 2009:

The Giant Slalom racer with slightly more flex for dynamic skiers who don't need such a brutal level of aggression. With the carbon/titanium Integral Bridge the ski has the best control and edge grip wile the integrates Dual Torsion Bar ensures high stability and the AeroSpeed II surface, which doesn't just look great, it's honeycomb structure also reduces air turbulence. There's only one word for it: speed.

Atomic Race GS 12 pb Skis 2009

Atomic Race GS 12 pb Skis 2009

Famed throughout the skiing world for their race skis the Atomic GS 12 is Atomic's leading GS ski for the grand public before shooting off into the rarified world of pure FIS certified race skis.

As a shop ski this is a great piece of kit. They are super-smooth and wonderfully easy to remain centred upon. the 12 pb's, pb = Power Bridge, dive into medium to large GS turns and feel very reassuring yet still agile. And that Power Bridge, well you can certainly feel it working to not only dampen but also to retain the flex and liveliness of the ski. For very high speed GS-style thrills this ski is hard to beat, for pure race performance then head for the FIS ski which is a completely different beast.

Grip is tenacious, power is abundant and overall an expert skier looking for radical carves and a real power-boost to their skiing will thoroughly enjoy their time on the GS 12's, as long as the snow is firm and flat of course. And that is where many a keen skier may get turned-off, a ski of this nature does perform so much better when conditions permit - you want quiet pistes, well-groomed, firm snow and probably some good skiers around you. So it is a fair bit to ask for but the GS 12's are worth it if you enjoy the rush of speed and prefer some hard-pack to poncing around in the bumps!

skireviews.co.uk rating: 97/100

Perfect GS-style racers for the expert skier. Think of a tuned Porsche 911, a GT3 lets say and you have the type of ski this is.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Race GS 12 pb Skis 2009:

The Giant Slalom racing machine from the World Cup. For high-speed, no compromises. Guaranteed by a complete flex system of ingenious features: The freely flexible Power Bridge for aggressive power transmission, the 3D titanium Power Channels in the Beta Profile for high resistance to torsion and optimum energy transfer to the edge of the ski.

Atomic Nomad Sunburst Skis 2009

Atomic Nomad Sunburst Skis 2009

Featherweight and more forgiving than a chocolate-box Spaniel. The Nomad Sunburst is your opening into skiing, a beginner or early intermediate will find this ski easy, reassuring and controllable in most circumstances. It would probably be all circumstances if it was not for the skiers lack of control, because Atomic's Sunburst is about as easy and forgiving as a ski can be made whilst still able to offer some grip on firmer snow. And that is where this Nomad is good, it still retains some spirit of a skier being adventurous and wanting to push the boundaries as opposed to merely providing some plank of un-inspirational plank of foam for the new-comer to ski on.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 88/100

A very good first pair of skis for the beginner to intermediate.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Nomad Sunburst Skis 2009:

The entry level Nomad. Lightweight, multi-talented and forgiving, but bursting with energy. The Nano Reinforcements give additional stability, the surface shines with the Atomic 2D top sheet and radiates style and skill with aggressive design. A ski that has been created for having fun on the mountain regardless of where you find enjoyment.

Atomic Nomad Bluemoon Skis 2009

Atomic Nomad Bluemoon Skis 2009

Lighter, easier and tamer, think of a Labrador! The "Bluemoon" is not some dubious den of disrepute but a very easy-going pair of intermediate skis. With a 72 mm sidecut this ski allows the beginner to progress into carving a ski and also controlling their speed on steeper or tougher slopes.
Very forgiving, tame at the tail, wide and easy at the tip, a great ski for your second or third week on snow.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 89/100

An most forgiving intermediate, or even beginner package.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Nomad Bluemoon Skis 2009:

A rare skiing experience. The Bluemoon i a wonderfully balanced all mountain ski: light and manoeuvrable, it manages to bridge the gap between lightweight and smooth cruise with a major fun factor. With 2 TFC sectors and the Nano reinforcements in the shovel region it is both light and stable. For easily manageable turns on every route down the mountain. The Atomic 2D top sheet gives you a breathtaking look as well. Comfortable and enjoyable skiing on every type of snow in every type terrain.

Atomic Nomad Whiteout Skis 2009

Atomic Nomad Whiteout Skis 2009

Thoroughly enjoyable intermediate carver-all-mountain skis. Easy to use, gentle, skiddable, carvable and attractive to look at. A good seller last year, you get grip, agility and an all-terrain package which is perfect either for your first ski purchase or rental. A combination of pretty much everything you would wish for gives the Whiteout full-marks as an intermediate to advanced ski for the non-aggressive but adventurous skier.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 94/100

Attractive, agile and versatile.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Nomad Whiteout Skis 2009:

Thanks to the innovative TFC technology, very little energy is required to ride this light, high-quality all-mountain ski effectively in all terrain. With four TFC sectors in the tip and four in the tail of the ski.

Atomic Nomad Highnoon Skis 2009

Atomic Nomad Highnoon Skis 2009

The Highnoon sits at third in Atomic's versatile and cost-effective Nomad range. Sporting, relative to its waist, both a narrower tail and waist the Highnoon is a highly versatile ski aimed at the adventurous intermediate to advanced skier who - well I guess prefers to skid than carve.

As the tail is narrower there is less grip towards the end of the turn in the sense of a carve, this ski is designed so that you can "feather" your speed by skidding and scraping your skis over the snow rather than using the turn shape or arc to slow you down. In all a very good ski with lots of plus points - its price, weight, undoubted versatility in terms of snow conditions and terrain - but to be fair it floated my boat less so than the Crimson or Blackeye - guess if you are looking for a cruisy compromise then head for the Highnoon, I'd rather head for the Blackeye or at least the superlative Highnoon Ti version.

Skireviews.co.uk rating: 86/100

A very good pair of all-round skis for the intermediate to advanced recreational skier.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Nomad Highnoon Skis 2009:

Extremely light,, versatile ski with optimal performance characteristics on all-terrain, and every type of snow. With four TFC sectors in the tip, two in the tail and two in the tail and Nano reinforcement between sectors, this ski is dynamic, torsion-proof and easy to ride.

Atomic Nomad Blackeye Ti Skis 2009

Atomic Nomad Blackeye Ti Skis 2009

A great ski that begins to pack a punch to interest the aggressive advanced skier or expert looking for a cruise. With 79 mm under-foot you can head pretty much anywhere - great for spring snow, fair int he bumps and adept in fresh powder, as long as it is not up to your arm-pits deep.

What I like about the Nomad skis in general is their ability to remain agile, light and uncluttered - probably quite unlike my scribing! The Blackeye Ti retains all of these properties, packs them into a sportier and more aggressive package but still delivers a ski that won't damage your bank account too much in these tough times.

For the advanced skier it has to be one of the best all-mountain skis for its money, for the intermediate, grab looking to ski a couple of weeks a year and not loiter around only on the easier groomed trails then grab a pair and grab yourself some adventure - this is a real go anywhere ski.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 94/100

An excellent package for the aspiring, athletic intermediate or advanced skier looking for serious agility in an all-mountain package.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Nomad Blackeye Ti Skis 2009:

The Titanium all mountain ski. Powerful, wife and yet as agile as a running back ( a "centre forward" in the World's game, football, i.e. soccer!). Feather-light and super-flexible due to the interplay between the full-length titanium profile, 6+4 titanium TFC sectors and Nano Reinforcements for stabilisation. It all adds up to the best stability, precise edge grip and previously unattainable smoothness. A ski that gives the you confidence in every terrain. Stylish and super manoeuvrable off-piste; runs on rails with superior edge grip on groomed slopes. A ski that gives you its best everywhere and responds as though it can read your thoughts.

Atomic Nomad Blackeye Skis 2009

Atomic Nomad Blackeye Skis 2009

Now in their second season the Atomic Nomad range spans 9 different pairs of skis, the Blackeye is cosseted firmly in the centre.
Sporting a 79 mm waist this is no "Super-Model" slim slalom ski but a very nimble all-rounder with a light core, and agile manners.
Very easy to get along with on the groomed runs the Blackeye is sleek to behold and can carve sleek carves at a medium radius. A little livelier for general European skiing in that they are more agile through bumps or on firm-snow than the Atomic's 86 mm Crimson - yet the Blackeye still provides a touch of support when in fresh powder so they are a great choice for the snappier intermediate to advanced skier.

Still the Blackeye is best in fairly tame hands is not an economical replacement for a top-end pair of advanced or expert skis. If it is all-round performance at a great price that you are looking for then do check out the Blackeye, if you want to up the ante a touch more then plump for the Ti version, now you will really start to feel some bite and a dabble of power.

skireviews.co.uk rating - 90/100

An excellent, sporty allrounder - try the Ti version for more blasts.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Nomad Blackeye Skis 2009:

Make the mark in the unending white snow. The superior futuristic Nomad for athletic, demanding ski design purists. With six TFC sectors in the tip and four in the tail of the ski, the technology is also some of the finest on the slopes. For perfect enjoyment all over the world.

Atomic Nomad Crimson Skis 2009

Atomic Nomad Crimson Skis 2009

Tamer and more forgiving than the almost "beefy" Crimson Ti's the Crimson standard is a lovely all-rounder packing a lively punch on firm snow, not necessarily the icy stuff -although you still can retain plenty of control - but on softer, variable snow the Crimnson is a lovely pair of skis.

Retaining the 86 mm waist of the Crimson Ti this ski is very happy when you see deeper snow and will help many a recreational skier to tackle the powder. On piste there is good grip in short skidded turns and when you begin to open up the radius the Crimson carves nicely - certainly apt enough for any intermediate skier and probably very well suited to the majority of advanced skiers.

Very well priced, with a new, sleeker and lighter binding package the Crimson 2009 looks like a great buy for the adventurous intermediate or advanced skier.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Nomad Crimson Skis 2009:

This winter's Crimson "must have." This very light, high quality all-mountain ski is the top model in the Nomad series (?) Six TFC sectors in the tip and four in the tail of the ski ensure a soft flex, while the reinforcement built with nano-technology positioned in the middle of the ski between the TFC sectors provides the necessary torsional rigidity. Dynamic, stable and with optimal edge grip. The technical highlight for all demanding ski nomads.

Atomic Nomad Crimson Ti Skis 2009

Atomic Nomad Crimson Ti Skis 2009

Top of the Atomic's Nomad range. The Nomad's are thoroughly versatile skis and the Crimson Ti doesn't disappoint with its 86 mm waist and all-purpose medium-radius side-cut.

The latest model felt much more powerful than the original Crimson and I was surprised how aggressive one can ski on the Crimson Ti. This in not an intermediates ski, this is for an advanced skier looking for a very cost effective but smooth pair of skis that will give good grip on firm pistes and allow the skier to venture off into the backcountry if conditions allow.

The use-ability of this ski is where Atomic have done their home-work. A professional skier is on the hill pretty much everyday, they have not only the technique but the CV and the muscle-power to work a tough pair of expert freeride skis. Many regular holiday skiers on the other hand manage to get to the gym maybe once or twice a week and have a fair technique but they want a ski that will work with them and for them - this is where the Crimson Ti comes in. If you are an advanced skier looking for durability, good build quality, an interesting price point and a great pair of all-mountain "freeride skis" then the Crimson Ti's could be for you.

An excellent package.

Skireviews.co.uk rating - 98/100

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Nomad Crimson Ti Skis 2009:

The state-of-the-art all-mountaineer. With its chubby outline this ski gives you plenty of lift in powder while being super-light for an awesome level of balanced flex. The 6TFC sectors in the front end and 4 TFC sectors in the rear end combined with the Nano reinforcements make the ski run reassuringly smooth and stable. The reliability of all these functions together makes this the number 1 ski for maximum enjoyment all over the mountain. Easy to turn, agile and manoeuvrable giving you the "running on rails feel" both on the slope and in powder. Simply a lo of fun wherever you are.

Atomic Drive II Carbon Skis 2009

Atomic Drive II Carbon Skis 2009

Range topping Drive ski, the Carbon II is technology crammed for the smoothest, easiest and most flowing arcs on the mountain. This is a ski with executive appeal, a Merc' S-Class, powerful but refined, laden with technology to make your life more comfortable and apt in virtually any situation - other than a really boisterous one!

70 mm underfoot is aimed more at stability than rapid edge changes, you roll from edge to edge and the entire experience is kinda laid back and let the ski do the work whilst you chill and soak in the environment.

With a mid-radius profile the Carbon II swoops and glides as you would expect of this executive machine, there are no fiery radical arcs here - go smooth, keep on the groomers and have waft your way to lunch.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 90/100

Sophisticated cruisers.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Drive II Carbon Skis 2009:

The top ski with extraordinary smoothness for groomed slopes. The transmitters consist of super-light carbon in combination with the extra-long aluminium stabiliser that gives excellent gliding characteristics. The shape is perfectly tuned to the performance orientated prepared run skier. An experience you have to discover.

Atomic Drive 9 Titan Skis 2009

Atomic Drive 9 Titan Skis 2009

A very advanced ski in terms of technology for the good intermediate to advanced skier looking to spend the majority of their time cruising the groomed runs. All this technology gives the skier a smooth touch on the snow but not dissimilar to many skis in this sort of category, they are light and sometimes feel a little "tinny" if pushed.
In all the Drive 9 Ti is a very good red run ski (black if you're in the States). They do what they say on the box, they cruise, they're smooth and they are very manageable - perfect I guess in some ways if you're after that in your skiing.

skireviews.co.uk rating: n/a

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Drive 9 Titan Skis 2009:

The versatile groomed slop ski. The Titanium transmitters and twin punched aluminium stabilisers absorb negative oscillations. That means a completely new softness at the same time as easy-turning agility and a completely new level of skiing enjoyment.

Atomic Big Daddy Skis 2009

Atomic Big Daddy Skis 2009

Fantastic, I love this graphic, they look sublime in the flesh and you really do just want to hop on and go for a ride. The Big Daddy remain atop of the freeride pile Chez Atomic. With a meaty 125 mm waist this is a big ski for big powder days. This new model features a slightly "reversed camber" at the tip - so easier manoeuvrability when crossing the groomed runs or in tricky firmer snow conditions - in fact the latest series of Daddies from Atomic. More refined than they seemed in the early days, Daddies were real swines and best reserved for only the very best or those with a self-harming affliction.

The latest Big Daddy is more versatile, still as hard-core but an improved big mountain package for the confirmed expert to pro rider.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 95/100

Excellent big mountain performance with a refined feel, Reversed camber and great graphic.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Big Daddy Skis 2009:

The Grand Master of the powder snow carvers. A ski that demands respect. With 125 mm under the binding this is a massive toy that loves putting big curves into open slopes. With reversed camber in the tip to give more lift in powder you've still got amazingly precise control over the ski. For radical turns in waist-deep powder. A ski that has worked its way up to the front line all on its own. Listen to the gasps of amazement on the accompanying soundtrack.

Atomic Sugar Daddy Skis 2009

Atomic Sugar Daddy Skis 2009

Sugar Daddy's span a vast range of sizes - from 153 cm up to a serious 193 cm. In all the sizes you get a semi-twin-tipped freeride ski with 99 mm underfoot. 99 mm is about right for most European skiing unless you have a helicopter. With a radius in 153 cm of 25.5 meters up to 30 in the 193 this is very much a high-speed beast with the aim of stability - this is highlighted by the use of GS-ski technology in the B4 construction that still lives on with the Sugar Daddies.

As the ski is built around a "Densolite" core the overall weight for such a large ski is kept within reason whilst durability is not a know issue. In all a very good, although not exactly ground breaking, pair of solid performing freeride skis - recommended.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 89/100

An excellent freeride ski combining lightness and a dose of power.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Sugar Daddy Skis 2009:

The mighty drift cutter. At 99 mm the Sugar Daddy really knows how to enjoy itself. With incredible lift in powder it creates lines on the slope with a style that nobody else can intimate. If snow were flammable the Sugar Daddy would really rip up some fireworks. It's superior shape and no compromise attitude towards having fun in deep powder make this ski the perfect partner for discovering new routes down the mountain. Cut your name into the slope in big letters. Sugar Daddy is a fool to be proud of.

Atomic Pimp Skis 2009

Atomic Pimp Skis 2009

My favourite amongst the Atomic freestyle range - this is a ski you can use for "Free-skiing" as much as for pure freestyle moves. With a 103 waist they are not too large that they feel unwieldy and you can use them happily on softer and variable terrain as a real hack ski to nail pretty much any run on any degree of steepness.

With every feature you would imagine of a top-end ski, the wood-core feels solid but the mix with the "Kinetic Core" which is a lightened tip and tail made with "Space Age materials".......hmmmm! So the ski is well balanced and not as heavy as they could be, so it'll keep the "spinners" happy. On the profile, the 30-32 m radius is skiable and stable but also offers a skiddable, slideable and stompable to boot.

Great for high-speed hacking or more spinning finesse if thats your bag.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 90/100

An excellent backcountry freestyle/free-ski package with a stomping wood-core.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Pimp Skis 2009:

With a solid 103mm waist width and a powerful 31m turn radius the Pimp is built to charge. Period. A team favourite, you can find this ski deep in the backcountry dropping cliffs or stomping huge 7's in the Park. Grab a pair today and put the ladies on notice.

Atomic Thug Skis 2009

Atomic Thug Skis 2009

Monstrous beasts for the pure back-country freerider. As per last season there are two versions, 181 and 192 cm, the profiles are slightly altered but not by much and they both sport vast turn shapes. In fact at 37 and 40 m respectively tip this ski on its edge and you'll be waiting a long while before anything happens - but that is not what the Thugs are about. Stomping huge hucks off cliffs whilst riding switch, skiin' the deepest "pow" (I hate that phrase!) and having a pair of boards underfoot that are gonna support you, protect you (from clip the odd rock or cliff) and be as solid as granite.

Thug's are were it is at if you live for skiing, dream of freestyle and freeride and are looking for the ultimate in backcountry playfulness. This ain't the ski for you if you are not fit, playful, strong or are looking to shred some rad lines. Thug's can be heavy going, tough and the uninitiated may find them more cumbersome than playful - serious skiers will love them though is the conditions are right.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 92/100

I really enjoyed my two runs on them, they have a planted yet playful feel, are rapid and if I was young and brave enough to spin then I'm sure they'd be fine - I enjoyed them just for freeride blasting with a few Old School "pops" on the way!

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Thug Skis 2009:

Backcountry freestyle at its finest. The Thug delivers in even the deepest of snow conditions. if your idea of a good day involves nose butter 5's off cornices, switch pow slashes and slashing pillow lines this is the ski for you.

Atomic Urban Punx Skis 2009

Atomic Urban Punx Skis 2009

Focused freestyle boards with lots of attitude and the design and technology to back them up. Wood and "Kinetic" cored, full side-wall construction and a powerful profile with 84 under you hoof. The Punx are destined to be on the soles of riders looking to hit rails and kickers in the park, backcountry or home-made in their back-yards when the snow comes - lets hope you're not living too far south for the later!

Technically not much has changed from last year, although there is a new "Chrome Foil" finish to the top-sheet. In all a very specialised ski that you can ski pretty much everywhere but they are designed to excel in the Park with their full-twin-tip construction - very much a focused package for the dedicated freestyler.

skireviews.co.uk rating: n/a

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Urban Punx Skis 2009:

The Urban Punx was built from the ground up to annihilate rails and urban jibs. The ski comes locked and loaded with our Rail Slide Reinforcement system, a true twin shape and a specifically milled flex profile that turns sketchy drop-ins into walks in the park and makes buttering a snap. Riders like Ian and Jossi agree, the Urban Punx is their weapon of choice for urban assault missions.

Atomic Deviant Skis 2009

Atomic Deviant Skis 2009

Lightweight and cost-effective "free-ski" with lots of attitude, great looks and fine performance in pretty much all situations. Aimed at the youthful, the Deviant wraps a "Slanted Cap" around a durable Densolite core - this keeps the ski light, playful and less costly than a "sandwich" construction. Many manufacturers have used this kind of technology for many years, and it would appear that Sandwich constructions tend to aim for top level skiers or the highly fashion conscious but a "Cap" construction keeps a ski lively, agile and generally relatively playful and easy to use.

Along with the sidecut range increasing with the size of the ski and that of the skier the Deviant, like their Bad Kitty siblings, are great all-mountain skis for the skier who wants to hit everything from park to powder to piste.

Skireviews.co.uk rating: 95/100

Great little pair of all-mountain skis for the youthful.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Deviant Skis 2009:

Take proven all-mountain geometry, aturned up tail, and an incredible price and you get the best value in the Atomic family. The perfect ski for those looking to push their limits without pushing the limits of their bank accounts.

Atomic She Devil Womens Skis 2009

Atomic She Devil Womens Skis 2009

Funky graphics, side-wall construction, semi-twin-tipped and built for adventurous action the She Devil is a modern girls all-mountain ski. 81 mm underfoot and a GS-like 20 m radius in the 173 length give you a stable but manageable ski that is adept anywhere on the mountain - you can take this ski into bumps, powder, hard-pack or on any adventure and it will perform to a decent standard.
Best suited to the regular, and athletic, skier, the She Devil demands input and enjoys being thrown around, this is a playful ski, not one for just cruising for a hot chocolate at 10.30 in the morning.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 89/100

An excellent, fresh and funky all-mountain women's free-ski.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic She Devil Womens Skis 2009:

The She Devil isn't your typical girly ski. With a side-wall construction, and a proven all mountain shape, this ski is designed for ripping chicks that throw down all over the mountain.

Atomic Bad Kitty Girls Skis 2009

Atomic Bad Kitty Girls Skis 2009

New girl specific freeski from Atomic at a great price point. The Bad Kitty keeps things lightweight and agile with its Densolite core. A slanted cap also helps in the Park for spinning and the waists are wide enough to stomp landings and cruise the mountain when you've finished with the kickers and rails. Aimed at an all-mountain skier the Bad Kitty is twin-tipped for riding switch (still after all these years I don't see the point! Guess if you're going switch off a kicker, but when is the last time you drove backwards in a car for the hell of it?) but the twin-tip works well in tricky conditions and enables you, as ever, to smear a turn and control speed easily.

A refreshing graphic, fun ski and a good package.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 90/100

Very good "Freeski" for girls.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Bad Kitty Girls Skis 2009:

An all-mountain performer with switch skiing ability, the all-new Bad Kitty delivers proven construction at an affordable price. For those girls who are looking to take the mould and smash it into a thousand pieces.

Atomic Twins Skis 2009

Atomic Twins Skis 2009

Easy-goin' twin-tip skis for the up and coming freestyle generation. Cool graphics, versatile shaping, 111 - 81 - 106 in the 164 cm length, allows you to tear it up in the park, cruise in the powder and chop through the crud. A great ski for the enthusiastic and handy, if not ruly, adolescent.

skireveiws.co.uk rating: n/a

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Twins Skis 2009:

Sidewall construction at this price? Get outta here! This all-mountain freestyle ski is not only a killer value, but it's versatile enough to rip the trees in the morning and go for a spin in the park after lunch.

Atomic Raisin' Hell Womens Skis 2009

Atomic Raisin' Hell Womens Skis 2009

Ahhhh interesting! Atomic have been intelligent here with the range topping Raisin' Hell range. In fact this is a range rather than one pair of skis in differing lengths. If you are an expert female looking for a slalom ski or short turn race carver then plump for the very aggressive but nontheless wonderful 155 cm ski based around the superb SL 12 pb - unfortunately I don't think you get the ski with the Power Bridge though, but will check into it.

Alternatively you could grab a pair of the 176's, here we have a very different ski, in fact it is shares pretty much only the graphics as they are a pair of GS skis based around a ski I love, the SX 12.

So you can go short turn fury, long turn thrills or head for one of the two sizes either side which are a touch tamer. A great concept and make sure you choose the ski for you - otherwise you will be the one taken for a ride.

skireviews.co.uk: Great concept and very high performance skis with cool graphics for once.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Raisin' Hell Womens Skis 2009:

Speed without limits. The top model in our Atomic Womens Collection for all race-orientated girls on the run. A perfect all-rounder that - thanks to its excellent control - does what its told, even at high-speeds. With the Double Torsion Bar construction and Titanium reinforcement this is the top ski for winners. The design, Sleek and elegant with applications in gold. Together with the unique newly developed "InDesign 4Tix binding" the ski and binding share identical design. Raisin' Hell" the must have to be caught speeding with!

Atomic Heaven 'n Hell Womens Skis 2009

Atomic Heaven 'n Hell Womens Skis 2009

Female specific big-mountain skis with that ever-feminine of adornments, a "leather embossed" top-sheet! In fact the Heaven 'n Hell is quite a pleasing ski on the eye, guess all skiers, and especially women, do get bored of some of the marketing crap out there.

Anyhow, to the snow where this ski belongs. Heaven 'n Hell may remind of you of some half-baked soap opera or novella but it is a pair of Big Mountain skis for the dedicated freeriding female. With a versatile 99 mm waist this is not a "powder only" ski, although a few seasons ago it would have been considered immense in terms of dimensions. With a light-weight core the ski retains a level of forgiveness that permits the advanced skier to tackle deep powder with the H 'n H. More expert skiers will love the ski for its ease of use but don't think it is going to be all plain-sailing, this ski has a 25 - 29m radius depending on the length taken - that is pretty much the same as a World Cup GS ski for either women or men. No relying on the sidecut to "bring you around" here then - this is a ski that will tolerate the uninitiated in fine conditions but if it gets tough you will need to be active and powerful to ski the H 'n H in any of the two longer lengths.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 94/100

A fine pair of backcountry freeride skis for the advanced (in shorter lengths) to expert female skier - if its more speed and stability you want grab the 183, the 173 is best for versatility rather than aggression.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Heaven 'n Hell Womens Skis 2009:

Magic in the powder. Perfectly balanced for performing in powder. With an impressive width of 99 mm this ski floats through powder like an eagle on a thermal. Beautifully designed, ultra-light in weight, underlining the unimpeachable (thought impeachment was something normally directed at failing Presidents not a ski! - skireviews.co.uk) style of teh skier with its new leather-finish top-sheet. Gliding through the soft waves of snow without resistance, enjoying the ultimate skiing experience. Heaven 'n Hell: More power in powder.

Atomic Heaven's Gate Womens Skis 2009

Atomic Heaven's Gate Womens Skis 2009

Sexy looking pair of sporty intermediate to advanced skis for the fashion conscious female. Packed with Atomic know-how this is a strong pair of carvers but well-tempered and there are no surprises if kept on the groomed runs. With a wide waist, 74 mm, this is no slalom ski but they can lay down some nice short-radius carves and also don't mind a turn of speed in medium radii. A sexy, sporty groomed run all-rounder for a girl looking for a touch more bling on the eye and on her feet.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 90/100

Sex appeal and general useability.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Heaven's Gate Womens Skis 2009:

So close to heaven. A ski for athletic skiers who like tight turns. Thanks to its powerful sidecut, this carver gives you a great deal of enjoyment on groomed slopes. Heaven's Gate is wonderfully lightweight, delivers perfect control throughout each phase of the turn and really boosts your confidence in every terrain. The elegant white and silver leather look finish is highlighted with purple - this season's absolute "in" colour. Thanks to patented InDesign technology the is optimally co-ordinated.

Atomic Cloud 7 Womens Skis 2009

Atomic Cloud 7 Womens Skis 2009

Nimble, lightweight and easy to use. Need an intermediate skier ask for more?Tailored specifically for women the flex, the sidecut and the core are all intended to inspire with confidence and security the intermediate skier to take a more adventurous approach whilst still in their and the skis comfort zone.

A very pleasant all-rounder for the intermediate or early advanced skier looking for comfort and security over spills and thrills.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 89/100

Nothing untoward here, just a honest pair of intermediate all-round skis.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Cloud 7 Womens Skis 2009:

Like in 7th Heaven. The Cloud 7 offers precisely tthe level of perfect comfort that lady skiers enjoy. Thanks to the "WFZ 3+1" Women Flex Zones you can ski elegant turns effortlessly on freshly prepared runs. The warm red colour gives this model a sporty touch, refined with a white screen print, so that Cloud 7 looks simply heavenly.

Atomic SX 10 Skis 2009

Atomic SX 10 Skis 2009

A perennial favourite with many a red run hooligan. This ski loves to go fast, hurtling down reds and smooth blacks with abandon. The SX 10 is not the most sophisticated ski in Atomic's range but it is a heap of fun, a great medium-radius carver, quick off the mark and built for guys who have just parked up their Subaru and are more interested in 0-60 times than "saving the whale!"
If a ski could be non-PC this would be one. The SX 10 screams to be noticed, it is loud to behold, demands to be ridden fast and loves nothing more than a race to a cafe for apres ski.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 89/100

An excellent piste-performance ski for the advanced skier or thrill seeking & very sporty intermediate.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic SX 10 Skis 2009:

The Super-Cross all-rounder. For skiers who like to race the slope as fast as possible but appreciate a more civilised skiing style. Total control over the ski is ensured by the Mono Torsion Bars and the Magnesium Power rods. The cool Aerospeed II top sheet is an aesthetic finishing touch that serves a purpose for maximum enjoyment.

Atomic Punx Skis 2009

Atomic Punx Skis 2009

Top-line freestyle model the Punx has some serious reinforcement along the centre of the ski for lots of park grinding action. retaining its RSR Kinetic core from last season the Punx is lively underfoot and happy hitting kickers both in the park or back-country.

Punx remain 82 mm underfoot for 2009, the fundamentals are all but unchanged for this coming season save for the graphic. They are probably the most versatile ski in the freestyle range with powder, manicured slopes, the pipe or the deep stuff not beyond their boundaries.

Although they are pure freestyle skis you could still enjoy a pair of Punx out of the park, especially if you didn't go for the central mounting favoured by the pure park flipster.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 89/100

Excellent all-terrain freestyle park to powder ski for the advanced and above.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Punx Skis 2009:

Designed with freestyle specific features and technology, the Punx delivers unmatched performance and agility. How'd we do it? We started with our Kienticore construction, RSR light and a bevelled topsheet. The we capped it all off with a true twin shape creating a ski that lasts longer, spins easier, and handles better than any other ski on the market. Enjoy.

Atomic Cloud 9 Womens Skis 2009

Atomic Cloud 9 Womens Skis 2009

Lovely looking pair of skis with lots of agility and versatility for intermediate and advanced level groom run skiers. The '9's look fantastic and ski very well. Their 73 mm waist inspires confidence and is easy to balance upon, even in fresh or chopped up snow. On groomed runs the 9 is smooth and fluid and benefits from tailored flex to help women skiers engage their turns more easily whilst enjoying a smoother ride. Short turns, carved or skidded, are a breeze, medium turns the '9's forte and longer, faster turns are tolerated rather than lapped up. Not too dissimilar than the Cloud 8, durable, fun and attractive - am sure most women are thinking, "that sounds better than most men!"

skireviews.co.uk rating: 95/100

A lovely set of all-mountain carvers for the intermediate to advanced female skier.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Cloud 9 Womens Skis 2009:

Unlimited freedom. like floating on clouds. Aesthetic, dynamic and magical. Cloud 9 is the ski for self-confident, fashion conscious, athletic skiers. With its new leather look top sheet combined with an elegant gold glitter screen print, this ski really sparkles in a unique way. Equipped with "WFZ 4+2" Womend Flex Zones it is ideally tuned to the female sequence of movement. Cloud 9: Like floating on cloud seven!

Atomic Seventh Heaven Women's Skis 2009

Atomic Seventh Heaven Women's Skis 2009

A wide ski with a broad remit to be Atomic's most versatile women's all-mountain ski. With 79 mm underfoot you experience enough support in variable snow and rougher conditions for the majority of competent red run skiers. Stronger skiers or taller women may be put off by the lack of a larger size though, the longest ski is coming in at 164 cm which keeps the Seventh Heaven pretty much out of the hands of faster, more aggressive skiers or those over about 5ft 7. Nonetheless the Seventh Heaven is an attractive proposition for many an intermediate to advanced skier looking for a package that is pleasing on the eye, easy to use on general all-mountain duties - lots of reds, blues and the odd black - plus the 'Heaven is light, forgiving and well priced.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 94/100

Love the looks, love the performance just a shame there isn't one longer length that would suit taller women.

The manufacturer says this about the Atomic Seventh Heaven Women's Skis 2009:

Freedom on top of the mountain. For women who like to spread their wings. With this ski women feel at home all over the mountain. The top all-rounder. Lightweight thanks to its Torsion Flex Control sectors, "TFC 6 + 4", highly manoeuvrable, dynamic and extremely smooth running. Elegant and eye-catching in design with combined white and gold Fineline topsheet and unique InDesign technology that perfectly matches the ski with the binding. Seventh Heaven. Simply divine.

Atomic Cloud 8 Womens Skis 2009

Cloud 8 Womens Skis 2009

Atomic have two main women's ranges for 2009, the Heaven n' Hell range of freeride-freeski skis plus the more recreational Cloud series. This, the Cloud 8, sits one from the top of the Cloud range and is a comfortable, easy to balance against recreational ski for the one or two week a year skier. Apt enough for reds and the odd black run the 8's are designed for cruising with a light carve on groomed runs. A large tip to the ski, 121 mm on the 165 cm length, glides effortlessly into an arc and gives the skier a reassurance that this is a ski designed not to test your technique but to aide it along.

With a great aesthetic this ski is sure to be popular this coming season, it may be white but it does look great "in the skin" as the English say.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 90/100

A lovely all-round piste ski for the competent recreational female skier.

The manufacturer says this about the Cloud 8 Womens Skis 2009:

Full of personality and the joy of life. Fashion conscious athletic skiers will love the Cloud 8. A ski that radiates a joy of life. Thanks to "WFZ 4+2" this "White Beauty" possesses a very harmonious flex and is brimming with power and energy. This ski is your perfect companion thanks to its exclusive colour combination of white and gold plus matt-gloss leather effect. Cloud 8: The ski with strength of character.

Dynastar Legend 4800 Fluid Skis 2008/09

Dynastar Legend 4800 Fluid Skis 2008/09

Advanced skiers always love the, almost, perennial Legend 4800. But this year the dimensions are boosted to 79 mm underfoot so expert skiers looking for a versatile freeskiing ski will enjoy the Dynastar's qualities. An easy turn-in, lightweight, although beefier and more substantial than the outgoing model, plus Autodrive plate to give good on-piste performance for a most accessible and versatile ski.

A fuller, more mature ski with a greater level of depth than the original 4800, the Fluid 4800 is very comfortable in pretty much all-conditions and all terrain for the advanced recreational skier.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 90/100

An excellent ski all-mountain ski but not too sure the graphics are that hot.

The manufacturer says this about the Dynastar Legend 4800 Fluid Skis 2008/09:

Dynastar Contact 4X4 Skis 2009

Dynastar Contact 4X4 Skis 2009

As ever with Dynastar they produce a very attractive and super-smooth ski. With an executive-aesthetic and a construction tailored to the all-mountain cruiser the Contact 4x4 is a lovely all-rounder for the skier looking for sleek design and a versatile, refined ride. Dynastar were originators of the "polyvalent" ski with the original 4x4's, but this product is another league. The latest Autodrive plate and a wood-core that is light, durable and precise all combine for a lovely ski that wil more than fit the bill for the non-aggressive expert or sporty advanced skier looking for one ski that can almost do it all - with the exception of deep powder.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 95/100

Great looking all-mountain ski, topped-off with carbon fibre this ski looks wonderful and performs with a fluid, precise and refined manner.

122-75-106, 16m 170 cm.

The manufacturer says this about the Dynastar Contact 4X4 Skis 2009:

Dynastar Legend Pro Rider Skis 2008/09

Dynastar Legend Pro Rider Skis 2008/09

Revised and revitalised for 2009, the Legend Pro Rider ski is built for the dedicated freeride expert, or even Pro rider. Firmer, smoother and more invigorating than the previous somewhat soporific model. The float is increased with the addition of an extra 3 mm underfoot, the lengths - there are 3 models available - are a touch shorter and whilst it may seem more manageable I think the overall effect is producing a large freeride ski that remains dynamic.

Certainly a ski for the most proficient of skiers, the radius is 21 m +, so if you love a GS ski then you'll enjoy the Pro Rider in the deep and tough, advanced skiers need not apply. Solid wood-core and sidewall construction keeps 'em beefy and easy to repair so durability shouldn't be an issue. A firm ride and understated image, which you may like and I can take or leave - but as a ski they are feisty beasts.

skireviews.co.uk rating: 90/100
Top-of-the-line Freeride skis.
Power, powder and an under-stated image.

The manufacturer says this about the Dynastar Legend Pro Rider Skis 2008/09:
