The manufacturer says this about the Olympic Champion Antoine Deneriaz joins Salomon for 2008:

ANTOINE DENERIAZ, OLYMPIC CHAMPION, JOINS SALOMON!

Antoine Deneriaz, the 2006 Downhill Olympic Champion, has decided to join Salomon for the coming seasons.

The French downhill skier, 2006 Downhill Olympic Champion and winner of 3 World Cup events (2 of which on his favorite slope in Val Gardena), has joined the French brand, Salomon, for the next step of his career with the next World Championships in Val d’Isere as his major goal.

Antoine, one of the world’s best downhill skiers for the past 5 years, had remarkable performances during the 2006 season winning an Olympic Gold in Torino. With the best time in the training run, Antoine kept calm which allowed him to make history in the sport.
Victim to a horrific fall in the 2006 World Cup Finals in Are, Antoine has a tough time getting back his sensations in downhill. His physical preparation for the 2006/07 season was greatly affected thus making his favorite discipline more difficult.
This winter, Antoine had his best ever season in Super-G with a notable 5th at Lake Louise and 10th at Hinterstoder. He finished 16th of the 2007 Super-G World Cup Overall Ranking.
After having worked with various Downhill Olympic Champions such as Jean Luc Cretier (Nagano 1998) and Fritz Strobl (Salt Lake City 2002), Salomon is delighted to welcome Antoine to the speed disciplines’ team of specialists. Thanks to the great performance of our equipment, the knowledge of our team of engineers and race technicians, Antoine Deneriaz has decided to collaborate with Salomon to take on new challenges. Pascal Lemoine, his loyal service man for the past 7 years, will continue to work with him on the World Cup circuit.

Antoine Deneriaz: “I had a really tough season in 2007. My physical preparation was not great after my fall at the 2006 World Cup finals. I was not able to get back to my top level and was continuously searching for my on-snow sensations all season. It is really important for me to go for a fresh start; and I am really excited about skiing with Salomon equipment, and French equipment to boot. It’s quite a coincidence; I just moved close to Annecy, just a few kilometers from the Salomon factory. That will definitely reinforce my implication in product development thanks to the proximity with my partners. I have already won a few major titles, some World Cup events. To win in Francein 2009, with French equipment would be an even greater success for me.”

Christian Frison Roche, Salomon Racing Director: “We have cultivated a true Olympic Champion tradition for many years. With Fritz Strobl, the great Austrian champion retiring after many victories and medals in downhill and Super-G in all major events, we needed to replace him with a world-class champion. Antoine, with his great record, was a natural choice for Salomon; and he will allow us to maintain our presence among the elite in the speed disciplines. With the French skiers Ingrid Jacquemod, Marie Marchand Arvier and Antoine Deneriaz, Salomon will be present at the highest level for the next World Championships in 2009 in Val d’Isere.”
