The manufacturer says this about the Dynastar Altirail Pierra Menta Pro Skis 2008/09:

All the skis in the Alti range are built around
the same philosophy: uphill performance without compromising on
downhill skiability. Recreational and professional skiers alike will
find a product adapted to their level within this range.
The Alti Powder was created in line with this philosophy. As the first
«wide» backcountry ski, it has the best strength to weight ratio on
the market whilst still providing a great grip.

Lightweight: Rohacell core
Adapted skiability: Sidecuts and flexibility to meet
the requirements of ski mountaineering boots and
bindings
Performance: Tip specially machined for efficient use
with sealskins
