Volkl Racetiger GS Racing Powerswitch Skis 2008/9

Volkl Racetiger GS Racing Powerswitch Skis 2008/9

Winner of the ski industry's largest festival ski award, the GS Powerswitch is a refined, tuneable and accessible - plus extremely fine looking and well manufactured - ski.

With Volkl's new three way "Powerswitch" you can vary the performance of the ski considerably. Without the switch on, i.e. in the "Cruise" position the GS 'Tigers are not what you would call passive but they are manageable and more versatile in tricky conditions such as ill-prepared slopes or poor white-light conditions. As you begin to feel more confident with the conditions or terrain you can pump up the carbon rods within the ski to "Dynamic" and instantly there is more feedback, improved grip and a higher level of performance - in fact I loved the dynamic position for general freeskiing as you feel the ski is lively but not that aggressive that it adversely effects your skiing enjoyment if the going gets a little tougher. Not having the chance on this particular model to try the "Power" on switch I can only imagine that the grip will be even more intensified and unless you are feeling particularly lively, or the conditions are particularly good, then the "Dynamic" is a fine compromise.

Even after all that "Switch" chat the GS Racetiger remains a full-on ski aimed at the top-end of the market. They are the equivalent of buying a fully-loaded GT Tourer such as a top-end Mercedes, Bentley or Porsche - they maybe comfortable and laden with technology to keep you on the road but they are still bloody fast and demand some respect.
